No Kings Rally

The Trump administration reminds me a lot of Rome in biblical times.  They are Roman rulers while most people of the United States are the folks in Palestine.  I feel we have no power.  Every day gets worse and worse.  Right now, the government is shut down with no end in sight.  This means people who rely on Medicaid aren’t going to get their checks.  On top of that, Trump is firing government workers.

Rallies called “No Kings” which were demonstrations against Trump and his administration took place in all 50 states with 7 million people participating.  The picture above is only a small snapshot of those rallies. Demonstrations are hard for me due to the stimulation but as soon as I heard about it, I knew I needed to go.  I wore my ear plugs at all times.

I thought Michael and I were going to go alone but one of the members of Circle of Mercy sent out a note asking if anyone was going to come.  Several folks responded and a contingent of us met at the French Broad Chocolate Factory downtown.

There were so many people at the rally, we couldn’t even get close to the stage.  Along with hundreds of others, we marched through the streets of Asheville.  We had no permit, but the police left us alone. The only instance of any sort of violence was when a Trump supporter on a motorcycle ran into a woman. It’s really unbelievable that this many folks across the country could have a peaceful rally and march.

Here are a couple of other pictures of our march:

It was funny but I didn’t get overstimulated.  I think it’s because I don’t do well in large groups with lots of talking and a program on a stage in front.  Since we didn’t attend the program but marched, it was easier for me.

It’s sort of frustrating because I never know when my over stimulation is going to bother me.  Today Michael and I cleaned out our shed and my fatigue hit me. I had to put in my ear plugs and lay down for about 30 minutes. I try and take precautions but there’s only so much I can do.  I’m glad I went to the rally and if there are more rallies I will do my best to attend. Our country is in real trouble, and I want to speak up.
